Honoré-François of Grimaldi was the youngest son of Louis I and Catherine-Charlotte de Gramont, and the brother of Antoine I. Firstly Knight of Malta, he studied theology at the Sorbonne and obtained his Bachelor degree in 1695. Ordained as a priest in 1699, he then became priest of Monaco. In 1717, he headed the Saint-Maixent Abbey in Poitou, and was finally appointed bishop of Besançon in 1723. He died in Paris in 1748, at the age of 78. (full text in French)

The first stamps from Monaco were issued in 1885. Bearing the effigy of Prince Charles III, they were letterpress printed, and some of them already had two colours. In 1922, Monaco was one of the first countries to print stamps in intaglio. They illustrated various places : the Palace, the Rock of Monaco as well as Sainte Devote's Bridge. (full text in French)

Art lover, Prince Antoine I was interested in the evolution of literature, paint, but above all music, his chosen field. From 1721 to 1730, he engaged a regular correspondence with Dominique Bernardony, his representative in Paris, or with Le Page, his secretary. This correspondence, the minutes books of which are kept in the Archives of the Prince’s Palace, gives us some more information about the Prince’s permanent quest for the last religious or profane works printed in Paris. Augustin Grimaldi devoted himself to an ecclesiastical life. In 1501, after his studies, he was in charge of the Lérin Abbey, one of the oldest and the most powerful abbeys of Provence. He was appointed bishop of Grasse in 1505, when his uncle died. In 1523, after his brother’s murder, Lucien Grimaldi, Lord of Monaco, Augustin had to act as Lord of Monaco. He entered into an alliance with Charles Quint in 1524, with the Burgos Treaty. (full text in French)

The article deals with 9 authentic documents, which reveal the confusion in Marseille in 1837, after the emergence of high quality coins made with copper and stricken by the « Hôtel des Monnaies de Monaco ». Apollinaire spent part of his childhood in Monaco, between 1887 and 1895. Even if he did not make any reference of this period in his work, or only once in obiter, the years spent in Monaco had a significant influence in his poet career, as he was educated at that time.
