This article summarizes the chapters of a typescript entitled “Les Paroisse de la Principauté de Monaco”, the original of which is held in the Archives of the Palace. It deals with the settlement of the parish territory in Monaco, as well as the history and the architecture of the following chapels : Saint-Martin, Saint-Elme, Sainte-Barbe, Sainte-Croix and Roqueville. On November 21st 1604, Hercule I was murdered in a street of the rock of Monaco, because of his wealth and his status. Stefano Boccone, at the head of the conspiracy, aimed to give Monaco to the Savoy or Genoa, Monaco’s ancient homeland. (full text in French)

Far from being excluded from the 1939-1945 drama, the principality of Monaco, surrounded by Alpes-Maritimes, had to endure the war which occurred across borders. Bombing caused massive destructions and claimed many victims. Monaco had been under the Axis forces’ occupation for two years and had to face refugees, resistance workers, deportations and executions. (full text in French)

In the late 19th century and in the early 20th century, while Monaco was facing one of the crowning moments of its artistic history, two native composers had an important role within the principality : Louis Abbiate and Gustave Graefe. (full text in French)

Jacques-François de Goyon-Matignon, duke of Valentinois and Louise-Hippolyte’s husband, gave his name to a luxurious place in Passy : the Hotel “de Valentinois”. Man of letters and art lover, he had reigned for nearly two years. After his wife died, we went to Paris and its neighbourhood where he engaged some important works in order to embellish his Passy property. (full text in French)
