This study is the continuation of the article entitled “When the Grimaldi citizen served in the Republic armies”, in the issue n°4 of Annales monégasques. After a time of peace, during which Honoré Grimaldi moved away from the army, he distinguished himself as the Grouchy’s “aide de camp” during the German campaign in 1806 and became in 1807, Prince Murat’s “aide de camp”. In 1892, while the lyrical art was growing in Monaco, Raoul Gunsbourg took the lead of the Opera of Monte-Carlo. In his first season, Gunsbourg showed his boldness and dynamism by the creation of “The damnation of Faust” by Berlioz. (full text in French)

Immediate successor of his grand-father Honoré II, after the accidental death of his father Hercule, Louis I married, in 1660, Charlotte de Gramont, who came from the French nobility, in order to finalize the French alliance signed in the Treaty of Péronne. This study deals with the different wranglings preceding the signature of the wedding contract. (full text in French)

The princes Honoré II and Jacques I in particular, showed a great interest in numismatics. Honoré II held a cabinet of curiosities where he collected coins and medals. Inheriting this collection, Jacques I transformed it into a treasure trove and created a notable cabinet of medals in the Hotel Matignon. (full text in French)

From the beginning of the French alliance and the implementation of the Treaty of Péronne, a Prince guard had been created. This study summarises the evolutions of work forces, uniforms, armament and designation until Albert I, and the establishment of prince’s carabiniers. (full text in French)

This issue presents some extracts from a manuscript held in the Archives of the Palace and entitled “Research about Monaco or note to serve the history of this city”. Written by the knight Louis de Sigaldi, likely from 1812 to 1826, this text references the different festivities celebrated in Monaco, prior the French Revolution, and after the concordat.
